Late night typing...

Well it is early Monday morning and the week is finally over. Lately it seems like these weeks are just getting longer and longer... especially when I think back and realize how much has happened each day. It was definitely an emotional rollercoaster with more downs then ups, but it ended on a high note and honestly, I am feeling it is time to move on from certain things and people (her).

But now onto important stuff, such as songs I've been liking lately. And lately it has been fun.'s "All The Pretty Girls"

Not my usual sound, but the background singers of fun. give the song an 80's vibe which I LOVE.

But the band I have been completely OBSESSED over lately is the married folk duo, The Weepies. I've heard them a few times over the years and at last bought their most recent album Hideaway. Expect my next post to be completely about them :) For now here is one of my favorite tracks from that album I purchased, "All Good Things."

One thing I am REALLY looking forward to watching this week is the film Let Them Chirp A While, yet another film I am drawn into due to it starring Justice Rice of Bishop Allen. Following my favorite band members' film career so far as led to me watching nothing but awesome movies that I absolutely love. So hopefully it continues here. :)

It's A Ra Ra Riot

In the midst of an awesome four-day adventure weekend, I am taking a short break to write.  The band of this week was Ra Ra Riot. They're from New York and have the usual sound I'm into which means they are awesome. I especially love their song "Can You Tell," which, not counting the fact that the song reminds me of the girl I like , it really is a fantastic song. Below is their super cool, award winning music video to it.

Also this week: I love editing art videos!!

Cut Out Your Heart

Lately I've been obsessed with stop-motion. Not the Sinbad / 1981 Clash of the Titans stop-motion stuff but the paper-cut out style. I'm not sure why, but I love it. It looks simple, but these things are epic projects. EPIC.  I stumbled across this girl on Youtube a while back who made wonderful stop-motion music videos to the songs she liked (and that I like.) I think my favorite one that she did was of "Normandie" by the Shout Out Louds. The combination of warm colors and the tone of the song match perfectly.

Another fantastic one I stumbled upon while searching Bishop Allen on Vimeo was this video below, a school project someone posted of Bishop Allen's song, "Rain." My favorite band in the world doesn't have an official music video to that song, but I think this does it justice. And it fits perfectly with the weather in Los Angeles on this very night.

Under Control

Tomorrow, one of my favorite singers ever, Cary Brothers, drops his second album, Under Control. I'm pretty excited for this. It's been since February that one of my favorite bands/singers have released anything and waiting for new music of old favorites is a killer for me. In honor of this wonderful day, here is a quick rundown of my history with Cary:

It all began in 2005 when I heard his wonderful single, "Waiting For Your Letter" being featured on an episode of Smallville. I was still in high school back then and though my music tastes hadn't reached the alternative-folk sound of CB yet (I was into early 90s New Jack Swing R&B  at the time), the song was already catchy to me.

(There is no official music video for "Waiting For Your Letter." The above vid is a cool fan video that is dandy.)

When I became obsessed with Garden State, I rediscovered Cary Brothers through his famous song, "Blue Eyes" and shortly afterward became an official fan.

Since then I have seen him perform one acoustic set and was an extra in one of his music videos from his first album, Who You Are. That album features my favorite song of all time by him and one of his most well known hits, "Ride." The part towards the end, "Ohh, ohhhhhh!" I love it!!

(Music video directed by my favorite actor, Zach Braff btw)

Here's to hoping that Under Control does not have a case of sophomore slump! In my opinion, some of his friend's have had that problem. Joshua Radin's followup to his wonderful pure acoustic folk debut, We Were Here, was Simple Times: An actually not so simple album that was over produced and overly pop for my tastes. Same thing for Ingrid Michaelson. Her last two albums weren't half as great as her first two. Hopefully, Cary stays true to his sound like his other friend, William Fitzsimmons and produces another fantastic album. His first single "Over and Out" is vintage Cary so I'm thinking there is a good chance that the rest of the new album will be just fine.

Indie, indie, indie.

:::sighs::: It all began with Bishop Allen. The lead singer of my favorite band of all time had starred in two films by this guy named Andrew Bujalski. The film was called "Mutual Appreciation" and I knew I had to see it. But what I got was something much more than enjoying my favorite band sing their songs in a feature. I got to see an extremely grainy, black and white, 16mm flick that I completely fell in love with. Charming. Check. Funny. Check. Likable characters. Check. Completely different from the same stuff I see all the time. Check, check.

The movie was like watching real life in progress. I wanted more. So I decided to see Bujalski's first film, "Funny Ha, Ha" starring one other part of Bishop Allen, Christian Rudder (though Justin Rice has an awesome cameo). I loved that one ever more.

The thing about these films is that they aren't epic dramas, just stories about life. Even the endings prove this by being so random without a true conclusion. Moving on from Bujalski's films, I decided to watch "Quiet City" by Aaron Katz. The same feeling was with this movie and the plot... two people meeting in New York City and wandering through it together is something I really can relate to.

Yesterday I watched of seeing "Hannah Takes The Stairs" directed by Joe Swanberg. Bujalski acts in it also. Though it is probably my least favorite in the mumblecore genre, it was decent nonetheless. I know I'm late in getting into these mumblecore films, but I'm glad I stumbled across them. At least now I won't be getting bored with my Netflix account anytime soon. :)

Settled.

Well I am officially settled in my new apartment. Yay!

Isn't it fantasssssstic?

>.< Okay it's a bit small for two people to live, but it's my first place on my own as an independent young adult. I could do worst. And my roommate is a good friend.

On the work side, I've been looking for editing internships/jobs. It's pretty hard. Hopefully once I finish my demo reel things will get easier. I gotta get to it! It's just there are many older projects I really want to re-edit to perfection and that takes time. On top of that, I have new projects being added as well as my part-time job and general life things. I wish life would just slow down sometimes.

Besides that, I've been listening a lot of Owl City lately. I usually got for more rock/folk sounds and not the electronic stuff, but his music gets to me in a good way. His two albums are constantly getting play in my iPod.

I Miss You

So I moved out of my family's apartment and live on my own. And you know who I miss right now? I two pet fish, Maury and Blackie. They are the coolest fish ever. They would always stare at me from the fish tank and follow my finger across the glass when I would play with them. I need to go back home and visit them soon.

Maury is the larger fish and Blackie is the fish that isn't black.

Hello.

This blog will night die! I refuse to let it die! Even if I end up only posting once every five years. The holidays were just so crazy.... buying gifts, finishing school, editing... ugh. Even as I am typing right now, I should be editing a friend of mine's documentary about a slum, rat infested apartment in Los Angeles. ◕_◕

But somehow, my tendency to procrastinate made me realize I have this out here and I figured it's time to put something new. So wa-la. It also helps to vent because I have been having a pretty lousy week. Feeling alone and depressed again. It feels even worst typing it and reading those words aloud. I mean, I know how emo I sound at the moment. And considering how much I dislike the whole emo-movement, I can't help but admire how they express their sad feelings so easily. I can't even do that in person. Hell, I can't even type the reason I am feeling so depressed on here because of how much in denial I am.

Not all things this bad are terrible though. The library finally had a copy of Nick Hornby's latest novel not checked out and I've already began tearing into it.

It has been exactly one year since I have been able to read a book from my favorite author. And so far, it is great. Annie's boyfriend, Duncan, is obsessed with this Dylan-like singer named Tucker Crowe, who had been under the radar for 20 years. Duncan is so obsessed with him it causes a strain in their relationship and things get crazy when a fellow fan sends Duncan an early copy of Crowe's newest album, entitled Juliet, Naked. Annie actually finds the copy first and listens to it, which enrages Duncan enough, but then things get worst when Annie actually gives the album a poor review.

That is how far I got so far. From the synopsis, it seems later, Annie actually meets Crowe and begins a relationship with him. The novel is supposed to deal with extreme loneliness, mixed up with Horby's usual great humor. I am really going to enjoy this.

That's all for now. My next blog won't take so long... hopefully ;) To end it, I'll leave a listen link for the current band I've been listening to this week, Marching Band. For Your Love is fantastic. Especially at 0:59.
